This fantastic book is the catalogue of an exhibition presented by the Musée Romain de Vidy, Lausanne, Switzerland.
The concept is fantastic, The team of professional restorers from the state archaeological department worked on contemporary objects to make them 'archaeological', I mean old like a roman artifact, and then restored. The author worked as an archaeologist from the future, with a very poor knowledge of our time, and tried to understand and describe these objects. And he is very clever! So a metal fork used by the former national airway company, stamped 'Swissair' is supposed to be named with the name of the artisan who made the fork.. maybe like the Enions? And our national figure Guillaume Tell engraved on <metal discs> (coins) is supposed to show us the fashion of our time, and could be a god! Here I present only the glass pieces of the book.
The first glass presented, on left, is a very traditionnal little glass used in west part of Switzerland to drink local white wine during traditionnal parties or celebrations. These glasses get a picture linked to the celebration, a flag of the city or a logo of the sponsor. In this case the author suppose it could be a part of the region of Lausanne, but in fact Zinal is a village far from the city.
Another example, the mold guitar, a very kitch bottle probably used for cheap wine seems very rich to the author, the horizontal lines are supposed to be used for gradation of the liquid.
This is very clever and well done.
You can get the book, unfortunately only in french, on the editor's page: Infolio
